Bahasa Thai adalah bahasa resmi yang digunakan di Thailand. Namanya dalam bahasa Thailand sendiri adalah ภาษาไทย (phasa thai, artinya "bahasa rakyat Thailand").
Bahasa ini adalah bagian dari kelompok bahasa Tai dari kelompok bahasa Tai-Kadai. Bahasa-bahasa Tai-Kadai diperkirakan berasal dari selatan RRC, dan sebagian ahli bahasa telah menyatakan kemungkinan adanya hubungan dengan kelompok bahasa Austroasiatik, Austronesia atau Sino-Tibet.
Bahasa Thai adalah bahasa nada dan bahasa analitik. Kombinasi antara nada, ortografi yang kompleks, penanda hubungan dan fonologi yang berbeda dapat membuat bahasa Thai sulit dipelajari orang Barat.
1. Sawaddi Kab/Kha = Salam
Sawaddi Kab/Kha merupakan salam jika bertemu seseorang dan tidak bergantung pada waktu. Bisa berarti selamat pagi, siang,sore atau malam. Menurut saya sawaddi kab/kha, seperti Assalamualaikum wr.wb. Kab diucapkan laki2 dan Kha untuk perempuan.
2. Khob Khun Kab/Kha = Terima Kasih
3. Khun = Bapak/Ibu, digunakan untuk memanggil nama depan orang dengan sopan, seperi Pak Suchai=Khun Suchai
4. Phi/Nong = Kakak/Adik
5. Sabai dii Mai = Apa kabar, arti harfiahnya sabai (senang) dii (bagus) mai (gak)?
6. Khotob kha/kab = permisi/maaf (excuse me)
7. Yin dii tii dai ruu jak = senang bertemu anda
8. Mai Ao = tidak mau
9. Arai = Apa? (Ada apa)
10. Thao Arai = Berapa (harga) –> untuk berbelanja
11. Angka : 1 = neng , 2 = song , 3 = sam, 4= si, 5=ha, 6=ho, 7 = ced, 8 = ped, 9 = kao, 10 =sib, 11=sib ed, 12= sib song, 13=sib sam, 20 = yii sib, 21=yii sib ed, 22 = yii sib song, 30=sam sib, 31=sam sib ed,32=sam sib song, 100=neung roi, 200=song roi,1000=neng phan, 10.000=neng meun, begitu seterusnya.
