One of the basic uses of the energy produced by respiration is, the activities and movement which allows our bodies to engage in activities involving our muscles and movement. Atheletes engaged in sports activities are a prefect example of the use of muscles and movement. Another example of energy produced by respiration is the growing and repairing of damaged tissue in our bodies. Our bodies are able to repair any damaged tissue, even as small as a scraped knee. The transmission of nerve impulses and the signals sent by our brain are another example of energy produced by respiration. Lastly, the emission of light by an organism (bioluminescence) is due to a chemical reaction. This is used by many sea creatures to hunt for prey, protect themselves from predators, and also to attract other sea creatures. Some deep-sea squids let out a dark ink to confuse their predators. When the squid releases this ink, it allows them enough time to escape to safety.
