On Monday 22nd of August I went to the Jewish museum in Darlinghurst with the rest of my year to learn about my heritage.

In the first hour we met the CEO split into small groups and introduced to a friendly guide.The guide took us to an exhibit that had lots of letters that were sent during the holocaust. They were called signs of life because it showed that people were alive. The Nazis censored some of the words so people mad up secret codes. The Jews had to write in green pen to show that they were Jewish. The Nazis eventually stopped writing the letters and so the Red Cross took over and helped send letters. At the end of the war the Nazis destroyed all post offices.

Next our tour guide took us to an exibition about Anne Frank and her house in Netherlands. Anne and her family lived in a small secret room behind a book shelf in a workshop and they could not make any noise or movement. They had four Nazi helpers that brought them food and helped them survive. Anne kept a diary with her that she named kitty and she wrote in it every day until the Nazis found her and took her to Auschwitz. When the war finished Otto Frank (Anne's dad) survived and he visited the house that his family was hiding in and he found Anne's diary and published it as a book that today is one of the most popular books ever. Otto eventually died at the age of 91 in 1980.

Finally we visited a Historian (holocaust survivor). He is from the east part of Poland that is now west Ukraine. World War two started when he was seven and he lived in a cellar for a year. Then he was sent to an orphanage. eventually his uncle found him and they travelled to Australia for safety.

The museum trip was very educational and I learned a lot that I will remember for a long time and so I recommend visiting this museum sometime In your life.
