Im sure most people have heard about the idea of over population around the world, and most people go on with their lives believing this completely. One proponent of this idea is the UN. The UN claims that "This continuing, rapid expansion of the human footprint on what has increasingly come to seem a small planet, has serious implications for nearly all aspects of life” (UN). However, some may argue that overpopulation is a myth. Three main topics are mentioned when talking about overpopulation; Food, water, and the exponential growth of people. People without food inevitably die, however, overpopulation is not to blame for people who are actually starving around the world. In fact, "According to the Food and Agriculture
Organization of the United Nations (2009a, 2009b) the world produces
more than 1.5 times enough food to feed everyone on the planet. That’s
already enough to feed 10 billion people, the world’s 2050 projected pop-
ulation peak.But the people making less than $2 a day—most of whom
are resource-poor farmers cultivating un-viably small plots of land—cannot
afford to buy this food”(Holt). So there is surplus of food for the world, however, most people under poverty or in countries that have phony governments can simply not afford the food or do not receive aid because of their phony government. The food issue with regards to overpopulation seem to be a false theory. The water dilemma is also another false narrative.
