Lexi and the Poorly Prince
It was just approaching lunchtime and my Mum had packed Lexi and I a big, tasty picnic to eat in the Mystic Forest.

“Have fun” said Mum, waving us goodbye. “And keep a look-out for your brother” she asked.

My brother is known as The Little Prince, but his real name is Peter. He is 2 years older than me and absolutely loves riding his horse through the Mystic Forest. Every day after breakfast, Peter goes out to the stables and gives his white horse a wash – then he straps on a saddle and rides around the forest looking for an adventure until it’s tea time.

Lexi and I found a lovely spot in the warm sunshine and began to open up our picnic. There was jam sandwiches, sausage rolls, lots of lovely salad and ice-cool lemonade to drink. Mum had even packed us a delicious piece of cake each as a special treat. It was the yummiest lunch ever.

After lunch we sat in the sunshine feeling very tired and with very full tummies indeed. In fact I was just about to have a little lunchtime nap when Lexi suddenly asked “What’s that noise?”

“What noise” I replied, struggling to hear anything.

“That clippy-clappy sound” said Lexi “Can’t you hear it?”

We both stayed very still and I listened really closely – yes, I could hear something – but what was it?

Clip-clop, clip-clop, clip-clop.......I’d know that sound anywhere – I hear it every morning in the stables. That was the sound of horse hooves!

Sure enough a few seconds later, just as the sound became louder and louder, a beautiful white horse burst through the trees and onto the grass beside us.

“Hello Harry” I said, recognising the horse instantly. Harry is my brother’s magnificent white horse and one of our best friends.

“Would you like to share our lunch” I asked “We have plenty left over and you must be hungry after all that running?”

Harry never talks, but he stood there looking very sad indeed.

“Something’s wrong” said Lexi

“I think you’re right” I replied “But what?”

“Well where is your brother” asked Lexi

Lexi was right, my brother never leaves Harry’s side, so if Harry is running through the Mystic Forest all alone then something must have happened to Peter. “What are we going to do?” I cried.

“Don’t worry Princess” said Lexi “I’ve got an idea. Quick, come with me”

With that Harry ran off back into the forest whilst Lexi and I rushed back towards the Castle where I lived – but just before we reached home, Lexi stopped and started making owl noises.

“Twit-twoo, twit-twoo” Lexi sang up into the air.

Within a few seconds, Oscar the Owl appeared looking extremely sleepy.

“It’s the middle of the day” said Oscar angrily “Don’t you know that owls sleep during the day and only wake up at night?” he asked.

“I’m so sorry Oscar” said Lexi apologetically “But it’s Little Prince Peter you see, he’s in trouble”

“What kind of trouble?” asked Oscar, suddenly looking very worried.

“We don’t know yet” admitted Lexi “but his horse came back without him, so something must be wrong. Please can you help us find Peter?”

“That doesn’t sound right at all” replied Oscar the Owl “Harry the Horse never goes anywhere without Peter – I will fly above the trees and see if I can find him”

Oscar spread his huge brown wings and started to fly high above the Mystic Forest. We could see him swooping and soaring through the air trying his best to find Peter. The all of a sudden, Oscar disappeared from the blue sky above, into the forest below where we couldn't see him. Now all we could do was wait...

We waited......and we waited.....and we waited some more.

It felt like we had waited for hours, but it was probably only 30 minutes later when Oscar re-appeared from the forest – but this time he wasn’t flying and he wasn’t alone.

Riding towards us was Harry the Horse and sitting on his back was Oscar the Owl and my brother Peter.

“Peter!” Lexi shouted before I could say anything “Are you ok? What happened?”

“Yes I’m fine now that I’m back home” said The Little Prince

“Harry tripped over a branch whilst we were out riding and I was thrown off into a ditch” Peter explained - “I’ve hurt my foot so couldn’t get back up and I was very lucky that Oscar found me before it got dark.”

“I’m so glad you’re ok” I said, feeling very relieved “Let’s get you inside to see Mum”

And with that we all went back to the Castle where Mum put a big white bandage on Peter’s poorly foot to make him feel better again – and of course, she cooked everybody a delicious dinner that evening to say thank-you to us all, but especially to Lexi for saving the day.

I hope you enjoyed our adventure and I’ll write again soon.

Lots of love,

The Little Princess & Friends
