Notes - notes.io

Hi guys

I arrive in late October and will be staying for 30 days [exactly]. I will be bringing with me an iPhone and an iPad. As such, I will need a SIM card for each and a suitable call &/or data plan for each. I have done some prior research and have a reasonable idea of which plans I intend to select. However, I hope some of you guys with substantially more experience with these products than I might review my choices and make some recommendations as to their suitability.

This will be my second trip to The Philippines. On my previous trip, I used Smart as my provider and am happy enough to use them again during this trip. Last time, arranging a SIM card and a call, text and data plan for my iPhone was relatively easy.

However, arranging a SIM card and a data plan for my iPad was quite the struggle. Initially, I was sold a regular [phone] SIM card for the iPad by the Smart girl in SM Clark. This did not work at all, and it wasn't until I was back in Manila that I managed to resolve the problem. Apparently, for the iPad, you require a 'special' "SmartBro LTE" SIM card. As soon as I had this, I maintained a reasonable data connection. I don't know whether this remains the case, but certainly it was my experience last November.

Can anyone share their experiences with using an iPad and Smart as the provider?

I intend to use the following combination of plans for the iPhone:
*Unli Call & Text 600 [Unlimited Smart/TNT calls and SMS plus 2000 SMS to all networks - valid 30 days]
*GigaSurf 299 [2GB open access volume data - valid 30 days]

N.B. I'm not really sure what 'open access volume data' means exactly, and how it differs from regular 'data', if indeed there is a difference.

I intend to use the following plans for the iPad:
*GigaSurf 299 [2GB open access volume data - valid 30 days]

Can anyone foresee any issues with these plan selections? Or perhaps can anyone make recommendations as to more suitable plan selections?

I thank you all for any advice you may provide. I understand that this may be a rather dry and mundane topic for some, but I would like to deal with some of the practicalities prior to arrival, so as to leave more time for the fun stuff.

So thanks again...
