Tom Riddle (Lord Voldemort) adalah anak dari Tom Riddle Sr. dan merupakan keturunan dari Salazar Slytherin. Buku hariannya merupakan satu dari tujuh horcrux milik Voldemort.
Pada tahun 1992, benda tersebut berhasil masuk karena dibawa oleh Ginny Weasley, yang selanjutnya membuka sebuah kamar 'warisan' dari Slytherin: Kamar Rahasia. Ginny Weasley mendapatkan buku itu karena Lucius Malfoy yang menyelipkannya di antara buku-buku sekolah Ginny Weasley.
Tujuan Malfoy sendiri melakukannya ada tiga.
1.) Menghancurkan reputasi para penyihir hebat, seperti Arthur Weasley dan Albus Dumbledore.
2.) Memusnahkan semua penyihir keturunan Muggle di Hogwarts.
3.) Malfoy ingin 'membuang' benda hitam itu.
