By 1763 Britain controlled almost all of North America east of the Mississippi River

In the last days of the French and Indian War the Ottawa Nation formed an alliance of all Western Native American

Almost half a dozen British forts were destroyed and at least 2,000 Backcountry settlers were killed

In order to keep any more Wars with Native Americans from happening the British government made the Proclamation of 1763 which banned Colonial settlement west of the the line drawn along the Appalachian Mountains

The French and Indian War left Britain in debt

and they had to keep troops in North America so that france would not try to take back their land and to protect settlers from Native American attacks

The british started to impose new taxes in 1764 the first one was the sugar act

In 1764 they passed the quartering act this said that if there was a soldier they had to house them and provide them with food and supplies

In 1765 the stamp act was passed this said that people had to buy special tax stamps for all products and activities

The stamps had to be put on newspapers, wills. licenses , insurance policies, land titles, contracts, and any other documents

Many protests happened because of the The Stamp Act
