He was a nice kind boy, and of all the other children in the home I liked him the best. Many mathematical statisticians prefer to prove theorems, just like any other mathematician. Each of the two activity modes is a nice therapy for the frustrations which inevitably come with the other. Piet Groeneboom and I worked together on the statistics of the case of Lucia de Berk, see our paper in Chance [Reference]. In fact, it was remarkable that the statistical community in the Netherlands got so involved in that case.
