Notes

I get on one knee. I watch her confused expression morph into a shocked and delighted expression. "Will you marry me, Annabeth Chase?"
Annabeth doesn't even hesitate. "Oh Gods, Percy Jackson. Yes. Yes, yes yes, and yes." She leaps out of her seat and squeezes me, her arms around my neck. She pulls, away, but I pull her back into a kiss. I feel my heart melting into the ground. I finally did it. I finally asked Annabeth to marry me. And she said yes.

Annabeth pulls away suddenly. The moment's over.
"Did you really think I would say yes, Jackson?" She says with a sneer. Her head turns into mom's face. "Percy, get up, honey. You're going to be late AGAIN."
Then she changes to Grover. "Percy. Percy. PERCY."

I wake with a start. Grover's voice still rings in the air, but it's in the back of my mind now. I can already feel the dream fading away. Something bad happened, I remember. Maybe it was a dream about Annabeth again. Or maybe it was that one where Grover got kidnapped by a strawberry farmer. Man, that was a weird one.

"PERCY!" Now it's my mom's voice that rings in the air. "You can't be late Again. Honestly, Paul is going to explode from all this stress, son. You can't keep acting like the son of the sea god."

"I'm sorry," I mumble. "Would you like me to become a drug dealer?"

My mom nods appreciatively in the doorway. "That's the spirit. Now get up. Tyson's probably already at the stop."

The usual boring morning routine proceeds. I dress in some jeans and pull over my swim team sweatshirt. I brush my teeth, run to catch up to the bus, give Tyson half my lunch, and sleep through all my classes, except the one with Paul as a teacher. Surprisingly, my stepfather's lessons are pretty interesting. He gets pretty excited, dressing up as Verrazano or Magellan or comes into class bearing a true-to-life British gun. I can almost not pass out in his lessons.
Almost.

My last period is Health. With Annabeth Chase. Holy Hades, Chase is one hot blonde. She's captain of the cheer team, in the A squad of cross country, and is in the honor society for literally everything. She's actually perfect, and she knows it. And that's her downfall.

Annabeth freaking Chase. She's the bossiest, meanest 18-year old I know. She knows she's beautiful, and she flaunts it. She wears miniskirts, crop tops, and wears the skinniest jeans she can find. One time in science, the teacher assigned seats to everyone. While everyone was working, Chase stood up and loudly asked if she could switch seats next to Thalia Grace, her best friend. The poor teacher, who would look anything more than an idiot if he didn't say yes, obliged.
