Notes - notes.io

I am writing in response to a question that for some is probably very easy to answer, unfortunately for me, it was not. Fortunately though, in the end I thought of a wonderful memory, something that really intrigued me and helped me think from a different point of view, the question was the lesson and the lesson was this, who are heroes? This was a question that was brought up to me and my class in my current year, fifth grade. The question can be truly mind-boggling, some might say that anybody who says something nice or does a good deed can be given the much for granted title of being a "hero", yet at the same time people believe to be a hero you've got to be in a situation that is risky and causes you to have the intended intention to be willing to give up you're life for that of another. To be in my classroom that day was a great experience, the same question kept bouncing around the room but with a different answer every time, the gears in our heads would start turning and never stop until we were satisfied with what we came up with, at some point some kid would say they got it and completely understood, but just then somebody else would come up with a reasonable counterargument that would always get the rest of us thinking. When the teacher first asked the question i couldn't help but smile, it was almost as if I could see everybody in the room have one expression that said they had the answer, but then come to the realization that the question was deeper than expected, The question was what you could call two sided and everyone kept on seeing views of how to answer it, it was confusing, but fun. I must say my first answer was that everyone could be a hero because I had thought the answer that sounded nice and fair was the answer that was right, but it was most definitely not, that day I learned not to be deceived by the prettier picture, because even though it seems right, its not the reality. Thankfully though, the answer came to a somewhat conclusion by the end. We decided that to be a hero you had to go above and beyond the expectations, above the normal good deeds any person could do, and to depict heroism in a way that wasn't like any other ,which we argued was the only way to depict heroism, to stand out among the rest. To conclude I'd like to note that being open-minded and seeing from a new perspective wasn't the only way that lesson benefited me, it showed me that I couldn't and shouldn't consider myself a hero for the tiny things anybody can do in everyday life, and it pushed me to be better, and to open my eyes to the true heroes on our world.
