Data Analysis:

The expectation of the eggs were that the egg in the distilled water would expand because the materials in the egg are more concentrated than the water causing the egg to expand. The expectation of the egg in the salt water solution was for the egg to shrink because the materials in the egg are less concentrated than the solution causing the egg to become smaller. The expectation of the egg in the corn syrup was that the egg would shrink because the materials in the egg are less concentrated than the syrup causing the egg to shrink. The data did not fully support the hypothesis. The prediction for the egg in the distilled water and the egg in the salt water solution were supported by the hypothesis. The prediction for the egg placed in the corn syrup was not supported. The prediction was that the egg would expand, but after the experiment the egg did not expand. After testing all three eggs in the different solutions that data showed that the egg in the salt water solution lost 21 grams in mass, and the egg in the distilled water lost 1 gram in mass, and the egg in corn syrup gained 8 grams in mass. After analyzing all of the data it didn’t fully make sense because the expectation for the egg in the distilled water lost mass when it was expected to gain mass and the egg in the corn syrup gained in mass when it should’ve lost mass.

In conclusion, the hypothesis said that, if an egg without a shell is placed in pure water then the egg will expand because the egg will absorb the water. If another egg without a shell is placed in a salt water solution then the egg will become smaller because the salt water will take any water out of the egg causing it to shrink. Finally, if another egg without a shell is placed in karo syrup the egg will expand because the sugar from the syrup will go into the egg and take the water out. The expectation of the eggs were that the egg in the distilled water would expand because the materials in the egg are more concentrated than the water causing the egg to expand. The expectation of the egg in the salt water solution was for the egg to shrink because the materials in the egg are less concentrated than the solution causing the egg to become smaller. The expectation of the egg in the karo syrup was that the egg would shrink because the materials in the egg are less concentrated than the syrup causing the egg to shrink. The results of the experiment did not match our expectations.
