*Born aug. 30, 1797, Mary Wollstone Shelley.
*London
*Married Percy Shelley
*Father-William godwin~philospher and political author. Got married to Mary Clairmont.
*Mother-Mary Wollstonecraft~feminist and author
*Mother died shortly after birth. Never really knew her.
*older sister~Fanny Imlay(daughter from Mary W's affair with a soldier.
*Never got along with stepmother. Stepmother decided that Jane, one of her kids, should be educated but not Shelley.
*Loved to read her father's collections of books
*often daydreamed to escape reality
*during the summer of 1812, she decided to stay with an acquaintance of her fathers in scotland. She experienced domestic tranquillity she hadnt recieved before. So she returned home.
In 1814, She began a relationship with Percy Bysshe Shelley. He was a stufent of her father's and was already married to his first wife.
*Mary and Percy, accompanied by Jane(the educated stepsister), they fled England together. This cause Mary's father not to speak to her for a long period of time.
*They traveled Europe and struggled financially and dealt with the loss of their first child in 1815.
*The following summer, the Shelleys were in Switzerland with Jane Clairmont, Lord Byron and John Polidori.
*Lord Byron said lets have a contest for writing horrors. Thats when Frankenstrin was dreamt of and began to be written.
*Later mary suffered the suicide of her half sister Fanny and then Percy suffered the suicide of his wife.
*December 1816~ Mary and Percy got married, Mary became Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley.
*Mary made a travel log aboiut their escape in Europe called history of the six week tour.still working on Frankenstein.
*in 1818, mary sheeley got Frankenstein published anonymously and many thought Percy Shelley had wrote it since he penned the introduction.
*the same year they moved to Italy.
* their marriage was difficult with adultry- sexual relations with other the thy spouse- and two more miscarriages.
*1819- they had a son named Percy Florence who was they only child to makw it to adulthood
*1822-Percy drowned in Gulf of Spezia with a friend.
*Made a widow at 24, she wrote more books to support herself and her son and devoted herself to preserving her husband's poetry and place and life.
* had to deal with Percy S.'s father who disapproved of Percy S.'s bohemian lifestyle
*feb 1- 1851(age 53), Mary S. Died of brain cancer in London, England.
*buried alongside her mother,father, and cremated remains of percy's heart.
