hlavní zdroj příjmů je pro ně: ropa, výběr daní, vydírání a inkasování výkupného v ovládaných oblastech
v Sýrii má IS ropné vrty stále pod kontrolou (ale v Sýrii moc ropy není, sotva stačí na domácí spotřebu - Irák 3,8% světové produkce, Sýrie 0.5% a není v OPEC)
