Here's the sequence of what I tried and found:
1. Changed the approach — set EquityDatingIncludeWriteoffs to true
Based on Lanu's comment on PCBC-13424, Paid Through Date should include write-off amounts. So I moved away from our earlier approach (flag false + the or condition reversing write-offs) and tested with the flag set to true instead.
2. Found one edge case that still fails
When a write-off is applied with zero payment received from the customer, and the policy is then cancelled due to non-payment, PTD shows future-dated, and this creates unpaid premium exposure.
3. Tried using iag_writeoffPostCancellationAmount (Bad Debt write-off) for this edge case
This function writes off the remaining unsettled balance with reason "Bad Debt" after a non-payment cancellation completes. It worked correctly for AU — the unpaid premium got written off as Bad Debt after cancellation. It was not working for NZ.
4. Root cause for NZ not working
In WriteoffReason.iag.ttx, the lag_baddebt typecode had no AU/NZ category mentioned, unlike other reason codes in the same typelist. I added AU and NZ as categories for this typecode, after which the Bad Debt write-off started working for NZ as well — the unpaid premium got written off automatically post-cancellation, same as AU.
5. Open question for business
As per the existing requirement/AC, Bad Debt write-off is not currently used for NZ. But for this specific edge case (write-off with no payment received, cancelled for non-payment), can we use Bad Debt write-off to handle the unpaid premium?
Should we go with this approach and present it to business — i.e., ask if they're okay with Bad Debt write-off being applied for this edge case — given that all other scenarios our tester checked were already working correctly with the flag set to true, with PTD calculated correctly and write-off amounts not being disbursed?
