Student 3 : “Oh hey.” (reading novel)
Student 2 : (sleeps)
Student 5 : (read English book)
Student 4 : “Hey, what are you doing?” (ask to student 5)
Student 5 : “I’m reading about this report text that Miss had assigned us last week.”
Student 4 : “Oh! I’ve read it at home, too. I bet we’re going to have a test today.”
Student 5 : “Seems so. But, those three didn’t seem to be bothered by it. Or probably they forgot.”
Student 4 : “Can’t help it. They’re bunch of lazy kids anyway.”
Student 5 : “We better study hard.”
(the bell rings and the teacher comes in)
Teacher : “Good morning, students.”
Students : “Good morning, Miss.”
Teacher : “Now close your book! As I promised, today we’re going to have an English test.”
Students : (panics)
Teacher : “Why are you so surprised? I already told you to read about the report text in page 36. The test is simple so you don’t need to worry.”
Student 1 : (whisper to student 2) “What should we do? I didn’t know about this.”
Student 2 : (whisper to student 1) “Neither do I.” (whisper to student 3) “How about you?”
Student 3 : (whisper to student 2) “No, I don’t know about this.”
Student 4 : (whisper to student 5) “Did you read it?”
Student 5 : (whisper to student 4) “Yes, I did.”
Teacher : (hands out some paper) “Quiet down! The test will be start soon.”
Student 3 : “It’s an empty paper, Miss!”
Teacher : “Of course it is.”
Student 2 : “Where’s the questions, Miss??”
Teacher : “Quiet down. I will read the question now.”
Student 1 : “Shhh!!”
Teacher : “Question number one, ‘Write down about the report text you have read in page 36.’”
Student 4 : (whisper to student 5) “Oh, this is easy. Thank God I have read it, too.”
Teacher : “Okay, that’s all!”
Student 1 : “Oh my God! What should I do?”
Student 3 : “Oh, shh! Let us focus first!”
Student 2 : “You probably can’t write anything down anyway.”
(Several minutes later)
Teacher : “Okay, now put your pen down, students! Now, I want one of you to read your answer out loud.”
Student 2 : “Don’t pick me, don’t pick me.”
Teacher : “You!” (points at student 2) “Read your answer.”
Student 2 : “Oh my God, why me?” (sighs then stands up) “Once upon a time, there is a cat…”
Teacher : “No, no, no! That’s not a report text!”
Student 2 : “It’s not?”
Teacher : “No! It’s a narrative text! Okay, please sit down. How about you?”
Student 1 : “Me?”
Teacher : “Yes, you.”
Student 1 : (stands up) “Last month, I found a cat…”
Teacher : “No, no, no! It’s a recount text!”
Student 1 : “At least it still about cat, Miss!”
Teacher : “Sit down! Now, you!”
Student 3 : (stands up) “Cats. I have lots of cats.”
Teacher : “Oh my, you have mistaken between report text and descriptive text!”
Student 3 : “It’s wrong?”
Teacher : “Yes, it is wrong. Now, you. Please read your answer.”
Student 5 : “Cats are the most popular pet and can be found everywhere on the earth. They have a Latin name Felis Catus Silvertis. They have become tame animals and humans were functioned them as pets since 6000 BC. In ancient times, the Egyptians used them as an animal to hunt the rats.
When they were born, they are blind and deaf. Then, they opened the eyes when they have aged between 8 to 10 days. Furthermore, their sexual hormones are active at the age of 10 to 15 months. On average, they have a weight ranging from 2.5 kg to 7.0 kg. Meanwhile, the length of them is varies, but mostly they can grow from 15 to 30 cm. Cats are lazy animals where they just spend time at home to sleep. However, not all the cats have that such behavior, one of the active cat is “Kucing Kampung” which is the icon of Indonesian cat. Those cats always try to go out and to look for food.”
Teacher : “Okay, stop. That’s good. Now you, continue to paragraph 3 about cat’s life span and food.”
Student 4 : “They can live up to the age of 20 years, and the world’s oldest cat lived about 36 years. Meanwhile, Kucing Kampung which are from Indonesia usually live only between 2 until 5 years. Cats are omnivore because we are very often seeing them eat fish, meat, rice, and even vegetables. Nevertheless, many people also refer them as a carnivore. They have small teeth and claws that are not harmful to humans. But, you have to be careful because a cat bite can cause rabies and their claws are so painful.”
Teacher : “Both of you are correct. That is a report text. It has similarities with descriptive text but the report text contains general information about it. Okay, the test is over so please hand over the paper. See you tomorrow, students!”
Students : “See you, Miss!”
