4. begin giving abdominal thrusts (stand behind victim. make a fist and place it under rib cage. grasp fist with other hand and make a hard inward and upward movement.
Symptoms:
1. grasping throat
2. unable to speak
3. noisy breathing
4. victim turns blue
5. victim loses consciousness
CHOKING INFANTS -
1. sit down. place infant face down on forearm and rest on thigh
2. use heel of hand to thump 5 times on back. support head and neck
3. if it doesn't work, turn baby face up w/head lower than bottom.
4. use 2 fingers for 5 chest compressions
5. if it doesn't work, turn baby on back. continue cycle
6. patient but persistent. call 911
7. if over 1 year, use abdominal thrusts only.
8. use CPR if needed after object is removed.
