Prisoners said that they would limit themselves to only water, but there is video evidence of one inmate, Marwan Barghouti (Mar-win Bar-goot-ee), eating food left in his cell on at least two occasions. Palestinian news has denounced the videos as altered and intended to demoralize other prisoners.
Barghouti is a former Politician convicted of killing five Israeli's in 2000 in an uprising that he orchestrated.
1000 men participated in the strike. 6,500 prisoners in Israel.
Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan has called the strikers terrorists, and refused to capitulate to their demands, though Palestinian media claims that Prison officials gave in to at least one, undisclosed, demand.
