Gejala awal setelah digigit Murtlap adalah lemas dan linglung, terutama jika yang digigit adalah Muggle, karena fisik mereka berbeda dengan Penyihir. Korban gigitan Murtlap harus segera meminum ramuan dari tanaman obat untuk menghilangkan efek kejang-kejang.
Tentakel Murtlap.
Tentakel ini dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai bahan ‘sari acar tentakel Murtlap’ (dalam buku ke-5 Harry Potter, halaman 454), cairannya berwarna kuning. Jika tangan yang terluka direndam ke dalam cairan ini, bisa membuatnya sembuh.
