2. Dalam bahasa Perancis dikenal tiga jenis kata sandang, yaitu:
1. Definite (définis)
Definite article dalam bahasa perancis memiliki arti ‘the’ dalam bahasa inggris. Bedanya, dalam bahasa perancis, kata sandang ini berubah tergantung kata benda di depannya, yaitu tergantung tunggal atau jamaknya benda serta gender dari benda tersebut, juga huruf depan kata benda itu.
2. Indefinite (indéfinis)
Articles indéfinis digunakan untuk menunjuk kata benda yang tidak spesifik atau untuk benda yang spesifik akan tetapi tidak diketahui baik oleh pembicara maupun lawan bicaranya. Bisa diterjemahkan sebagai ‘sebuah’ atau ‘beberapa’.
3. Partitive (partitifs)
Kata sandang ini bisa diartikan ‘some’ dalam bahasa Inggris akan tetapi kadang-kadang tidak ditulis. Dalam bahasa indonesia, Partitive Article ini seringkali tidak ditulis.
3. Kata benda maskulin
• le lac : danau
• le banc: bangku
• le marteau: palu
• le cahier: buku tulis
• le couteau: pisau
Kata benda feminin
• la haie : pagar
• la maison: rumah
• la tour: tower
• la cuiller: sendok
• la clé: kunci
