Why does Kafka use a beetle to symbolize Gregor's loneliness and isolation?
Humans have a natural tendency to avoid insects, especially unhygenic creatures such as beetles. When Gregor turned into a beetle, he was ignored by his family which caused his to feel alienated and isolated. Gregor had to stay in his room all the time to avoid upsetting or scaring his family and getting hurt. This is similar to how a beetle would hide from humans to avoid getting killed.
