Necromancy juga ada dalam mitologi, seperti ketika Odin membangkitkan seorang ahli nujum yang telah mati untuk meramal masa depan. Praktek menghidupkan mayat ini sempat berlangsung beberapa waktu, sebelum akhirnya dilarang pada abad ke 17. - Hal ini tidak hanya karena kejahatan yang sering ditimbulkannya, tetapi juga karena ritual necromancy yang sadis. ada Skeletal, Ghoul, Ghost, Lich, dan Lamasu.
