Have you ever been in a situation where you’re just tired of your Chromebook and you just want to throw it across the room? I have! Chromebooks are a big issue at Hebron Middle School. You may not have noticed it, but it is a huge issue for students the most. What can we do to make Hebron a better school? The answer is less Chromebook usage. Maybe even get rid of them altogether, but not yet.
The majority of students at Hebron are verbal learners. They need the basics- pencil and paper. Students get bad grades because of the Chromebooks. They can’t remember vocabulary words or just basic stuff they need to know. When students physically write stuff down, they remember it easily. I’m personally a verbal learner, I need to write stuff down physically. Sometimes I don’t get homework done because I’m too busy writing information down to use for studying. Also, students eyesight can be affected by Chromebooks. Doctors recommend two hours or less of screen time per day. In school, we use a lot more than the recommended time. I know of more and more students who are getting glasses and complaining that they cant see since the school year started.
Students can never keep up in class because we use Chromebooks for everything. I know many students who are slow typers, including me. When you type slow and the teacher goes at a fast pace, you get behind in class. You could be typing notes and not even be done with the notes while the teacher moves on. I took a survey and asked 10 kids if they would like to reduce the Chromebook usage in school. Six out of ten students said they wanted to lower the usage of Chromebooks. Three out of the six said they would like to get rid of Chromebooks altogether. Chromebooks are too much to take care of. You have to make sure its chared every night, you
