In the past hour:

I've met a Pakistani man informing me about his Muslim religion. He's currently a post-doc @MIT studying Computer Science and how to predict psychological courses of action using Machine Learning. He looks 20 but it turns out he's 32 years old. He's studying under a professor here at the Salk Institute for a month. He's leaving tomorrow. We exchanged contact info.

Minutes later I overheard a conversation between 2 students regarding amazon and Microsoft. To which I inturrupted and began a conversation. Turns out they were both grad students doing the dreaded 'fifth year' at UCSD. They hated it. They advised me to not worry about not getting an internship over the summer. But I plan not to heed their advice.

I briefly was stopped by my friend Sneh. Who, the more I meet with him, the more curious I become. He told me he wants to do his grad @Harvard. (Interestingly enough my previous roommate did a seminar @Harvard, and an acquaintance of mine just finished a similar program). What drives him to have such a goal I wonder? Why does he want to take me out to celebrate my birthday this weekend? Is this how Sneh has such a bountiful network? I've always wondered how his connections were so strong and wide.

Finally, my previous RA Gabe was just accepted to Berkeley's Journalism Program. Gabe (like many others) has become my role model (among many others) during my time here at UCSD. It makes me infinitely happy he gets accepted to programs he's applied to. And I've thought about that a lot today.
