chromosome 15. The H-chain of these molecules has a region that forms a bind-
ing groove' for peptides, such that when the class I molecule is synthesized it is
able to interact with and bind certain kinds of peptides. Only the H-chain is
involved in this binding, with β2-microglobulin stabilizing the molecule and per-
mitting it to be displayed on the cell surface
