1. Choose two animals with different maximum speeds from the chart. If you choose a different animal and their speed, please provide the source of the information you found. (2 points)
a. Animal One: Cheetah
Max Speed: 70
b. Animal Two: Coyote
Max Speed: 43
● The race is fair if the two animals could finish the race in the same amount of time.
● You can give the slower animal a shorter distance to race.
● Since this is a video game, the race does not need to be realistic—it can be any length, and the animals can run at a constant speed.
Describe how you can design a fair race between these two animals. Make sure to include the information mentioned above. Support your description with math evidence and key words. (2 points)
Well since the coyote is slower than the cheetah I will make the coyote get a two minute head start and have a shorter distance to run.
Fair Race Design Explanation:
3. Write a system of two linear equations showing the distance each animal can travel to model the fair race. Be sure to define all variables. [Hint: try using slope intercept form to write your equations, think about the meaning of each letter in y=mx+b]
a. Animal One’s Fair Race Equation (2 points):
b. Animal Two’s Fair Race Equation (2 points):
c. Define the variables you used for your equations (1 point):
4. Graph the system to prove that the two animals have an equal chance of winning the race.
Options for creating your Fair Race Graph:
● You can graph your equation by hand using graph paper
● You can use this online Graphing Calculator. Once you have created the graph you want, save it as an image and include it below or share the URL and include the link below.
● You can choose another method that works for you, just make sure the image is included in the dropbox when you submit your final portfolio.
a. Include your graph below (4 points)
b. Explain how the graph proves the race is fair by describing the following; is the race always fair? Is there a point where the two animals are tied? How did you change each animal's equation to make the race more fair?(3 points)
