This is by far the most depressing and saddest movie I've ever seen that illustrates just how messed up some cultures can be.

**DETAILED SPOILER**

Saru, a young librarian who everyone thinks is ugly, due to her traditional looks, keeps away any suitable husband. Her beautiful younger sister Kaveri wants to get married, but her father will not allow her to marry before Saru does. This leads to a conflict between the two sisters and the poor saru will do anything for her sister, even it it means seeking the help of their infamous, rich bad boy neighbour to help her see his girlfriend, a beauty consultant for a beauty makeover. Her only aim in life is to not do anything against the will of her father. She is innocent, submissive and all the good things in the world. Inder (Harshvardhan) on the other hand is a bad boy with a rough past living in the same society. Saru’s father intends to get her married to an IIT-IIM grad but a single incident changes everything .

When Saru's parents return early from their trip, the elders inform her father that his daughter has spent the night with the bad boy, which is untrue. Saru's father is sceptical at first, but when he sees his daughter and Inder in a compromising position, he immediately jumps to conclusions. Although Saru tries to explain the situation, her father disowns her and curses her by saying that she is now dead.

Saru tell her mother what had really happened between Inder and herself, and her mother believes her, but since she is submissive to her husband, she cannot explain to him.

Since that day her family pretended their daughter is dead by hanging a flower wreath on her picture indicating she's dead.

That is what brings Inder and Saru together; he helps her find an apartment and also helps her get a makeover. With her new makeover, she grabs the attention of many suitors. Saru hopes that if she marries a respectable man, she may win her place back in her family. Inder falls in love with her in the process, but keeps quiet when Saru’s crush proposes to her after her transformation. However, the guy stands her up on the day of the marriage because his father does not want a daughter-in-law who has been disowned. Knowing she can never find a husband because she is disowned by her father, Saru is left heartbroken. Saru travels to her honeymoon suite and asks Inder to make love to her for consolation. At first, he refuses as he does not want her to regret anything that will happen between them, but he later agrees.

The next morning however, he witnesses her embracing the guy that jilted her and leaves her heartbroken, Inder spirals into depression, breaking off contact with Saru, as he assumes she has gotten back with jilter. When he learns however that Saru had actually left him, rejecting her jilter request for a second chance, he tracks down her phone and finds her in a Buddhist monastery, where he professes his love to her. Saru passes out and Inder takes her to the hospital their he found out she has untreatable brain tumor. Saru has few days to live . Inder marries her , if only for but a moment. Her family regreted their action for they have cursed their own child, and she died in her husband's arm.




A SAD STORY OF LOVE AND CURSE

I LOVE THE MOVIE. IT TEACHES A MORAL LESSON, BUT I DOUBT IF I CAN REWATCH IT AGAIN.
