In the first song , I chose the jaws theme song. The jaws theme song is the most iconic step music of all time. When ever you hear this music playing means that something bad is going to happen and some stuff will go down. That is exactly what happens in a romantic comedy. A certain scenario is setup that shows that something bad will happen.

In the second song, I chose “Turn on lights” by Future. This song is about looking for someone. You can tell because he repeats “I’m lookin’ for ‘er” more than 30 times. In a romantic comedy it features two characters who are looking for love but not just anybody. In the song Future describes all of the characteristics and hobbies he wants his girl to have.

In the third song, I chose “I’m in luv with a stripper” by T-pain. I do understand that at this point in the rom-com, the characters don’t even think about using the word LOVE or even the word “LUV”. I chose this song because it has a problem or turning point just like in a rom-com. T-pain falls in love with a girl who’s a stripper. That sounds like it could even be a rom-com.

For the fourth song, I changed up the style of the song to represent that it’s starting to get serious. I chose “You belong with me” by Taylor Swift. In this song Taylor Swift and her cliche high school jock lover realize that they actually do have feelings for each other. At this stage in the rom-com the exact same thing happens, the two characters develop feelings for one another.

In the fifth song for the second swivel, I chose one of the most popular break up songs of all time. I chose “Say Goodbye” by Chris Brown. In this song Chris, despite his feelings, breaks up with his girl and is completely shattered because of this. The style of the song changed to a much sadder and depressing tone. This is the start of the saddest part in the film, “the crisis climax”

For the crisis climax I chose “forget you” by Cee Lo Green. Despite the happy sounding tone this song is not happy. At this point in the movie both characters try moving on past the relationship but can’t. Cee Lo is still sad inside despite singing about moving on. In the end he says how much he still loves his ex and proclaims “why” like 10 times in this weird prepubescent voice. This realization of needing one another lead into the final stage…

The Joyful defeat is the happy ending everyone loves. What else could I have chosen besides the song that everyone on planet earth knows. “I will always love you” by Whitney Houston. In the song Whitney sings about in the end she will always have love for her man. This is the same as a rom-com because they realize that they love each other despite what happens. The song is triumphant just like the end of a rom com where they live happily ever after.
