motion-this house believes that wild animals should not be kept in captivity
Definations: Captivity - condition of being confined (oxford)
Wild Animals - Non-domesticated (untamed) animals living in Nature
PROPOSITION:
(1) Captivity Drives Animals Insane

Most zoo exhibits provide animals with little, opportunity to express natural behavior or make choices in their daily lives, and this can lead to boredom and neurosis. With nothing to do, animals in zoos sleep too much, eat too much, and exhibit behavior that is rarely, ever seen in the wild. Primates throw feces and engage in “regurgitation and reingestion”—vomiting and then consuming the vomit.

Wide-ranging animals such as bears and big cats pace incessantly. Primates and birds mutilate themselves, and chimpanzees and gorillas become overly aggressive. Hooved animals lick and chew on fences and make strange lip, neck, and tongue movements. Giraffes twist their necks, bending their heads back and forth repeatedly. Elephants bob their heads and sway from side to side. Captive animals might show no interest in mating or, alternatively, become obsessed with sex

(2) Wild animals belong in their natural habitat
No matter how we may try to replicate their surrounding in a zoo, we will never achieve the full result. Predators need to hunt and taking from them their ability to do so by taming/caging/drugging them is beyond cruel. A study by the journal Science in 2008 found that 'Asian elephants in European zoos had a median lifespan of just 18.9 years compared to 41.7 years for wild elephants in an Asian logging camp.'2 Excessive human involvement in the food cycle has disrupted it considerably.

(3) Animals die prematurely in zoos

African elephants in the wild live more than three times as long as those kept in zoos. Even Asian elephants working in timber camps live longer than those born in zoos[5].
40% of lion cubs die before one month of age. In the wild, only 30% of cubs are thought to die before they are six months old and at least a third of those deaths are due to factors which are absent in zoos, like predation

(4) evidence above, it shows that Zoos doesn't prevent extinction as the animals have shorter like span when living in the zoo

(5) Breeding programs are badly forced

Zoos don’t tell you is that the forced breeding programs often make the animals sick and weak. The animals then have to be put down or live their lives in pain. The forced breeding programs are just another example of cruelty to animals, which occurs 56% of the time in zoos.
