switch- a device that controls the flow of electric current throgh a circuit. in a open circuit a light will be off; in a closed circuit, a light will be on.
electromagnets- an iron or other metal rod wrapped with wire that becomes a powerful magnet when electricity is passed throgh the wire.
static- a form of electricity that is produced when some materials are rubbed together.
insulator- a substance or device that does not readily conduct electricity.
circuit- a roughly circular line, route, or movement that starts and finishes at the same place.
battery- a container consisting of one or more cells, in which chemical energy is converted into electricity and used as a source of power.
renewable- a source of energy that is not depleted by use, such as water, wind, or solar power.
nonrenewable- a nonrenewable energy source.
transducer- a device that converts variations in physical qunitity, such as pressure or brightness, into an electrical.
chemical energy- energy stored in the bonds of chemical compounds.
solar energy- radiant energy emitted by the sun.
mechanical energy- mechanical energy is the sum of potential energy and kinetic energy.
energy conservation- refers to reducing energy through using less of an energy service.
conductor- material that electricity can travel through.
series circuit- a circuit in which the current travels along a single path to two or more electric devices; the current travels through each part of the circuit in turn.
parallel circuits- a circuit in which the current travels along two or more separate paths to different devices; the current travels through each part of the circuit at the same time.
