Saat berduel dengan Draco Malfoy di toilet, karena Harry menuduh Malfoy mengukutuk salah satu murid, Harry yang tidak tahu akan seperti apa akibat dari kutukan ini, menggunakan kutukan Sectumsempra yang ia baru saja ia ketahui dari jurnal milik Profesor Snape, terhadap Draco yang bersiap-siap hendak menggunakan kutukan Cruciatus. Akibat kutukan Sectumsempra yang diucapkan Harry Potter, Malfoy memiliki luka sayatan seperti sayatan pedang di tubuhnya. Kejadian ini membuat Harry ketakutan, membuktikan betapa kuatnya kutukan tersebut. Beruntung, Profesor Snape datang dan merapalkan mantra Vulnera Sanentur.
