Industrial Revolution: factory system brought many workers together and many manufacturing replaced hand tools and became the mail source of work.
War of 1812 led the country into the direction of industrializing. the British naval kept good from entering the US, so they had to manufacture their own goods, finding new markets, such as China, India, Turkey, and other countries.
Slater: first spinning mill in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. He hired children from 7 to 12, working with low wage. His system of employment started to spread.
The textile industry became popular, and the Lowell mills ran on water power. Farm girls were employed and worked around 12 hours a day. The wage was at first high, and there were strict rules that needed to be followed for the girls.
Whitney made muskets for the military, and demonstrated the use of interchangeable parts. This required less skilled workers and could save up a lot of money.
Fulton invented the steamboat, which could move against the currents. It is able to move upstream and up the rivers. They could carry even more equipment and are much faster. These boats have paddles on the sides, which later migrated to the black.
Morse first used the telegraph, using Morse code. Machines sent pulses of electricity through as wire, translated into a message. It quickened communication and was used by people all over the country by 1861.
Whitney then invented the cotton gin. It made cleaning cotton much more efficient. It could clean about 50 pounds of cotton a day, triggered a cotton farming move westward, it was grown much more, and increased slavery.
