Imagine in an alternate universe:

Each new years, a song assigned by the high spirits is said to be played by everyone's mp3 player to accurately predestine how the year will go for every individual on planet Earth. In this universe, it is known to be ordinary; a social norm ever since the beginning of time.

One new year's, a specific girl awaits her song, but nothing. Puzzled, she looks around and watches as her other friends in the room have their very first reactions to their song being played through their earphones. She unplugs her earphones and lightly taps her mp3 player, plugs her earphones back, then presses the on button. Nothing. Her mind starts to run wild. Is her mp3 player not working? Are her earphones not suitable for the device? And scariest of all, is this a sign?

Days have passed and still nothing, not a single melody, has been discharged by her mp3 player. Concerned, she seeks an avid enthusiast on the subject. She confides in him and asks for his input. He looks at her with pity. He finally speaks up, only to say something that struck her with much fright than she could ever imagine. A myth has been foretold that if no song is played for a certain individual on the first day of a new year, it is an emblem of upcoming death in the current year.

In a universe where you are only to die of old age, she was the odd one out.

Panicky and fidgety her hands get, her voice begs for a solution.

Silence. Minutes of deafening silence. His head down thinking of a fix to the poor girl's lethal predicament. His sudden projection of voice causes her to flinch, eyes wide expecting an easy answer to her issue. To her dismay, the only apparent solution to cheat her death was not nearly close to 'easy'.

She would have to sacrifice the life of a child to the higher spirits. The child is required to be less than 24 hours old, and had to possess the precise first name of the individual that wishes to gouge their death. That was the only way.

However, not only will she gain the advantage of dodging death, she would have to gain the power of immortality. Would she sacrifice a life, to live an infinite one?
