1. Cara memainkan piano awalnya dipetik, karena dianggap sama dengan kecapi. Pada tahun 800M hingga 1860, tepatnya pada abad ke-XVII, piano mengalami perkembangan yang akhirnya mengubah bentuk-bentuk piano. Mulai dari kotak persegi, mirip gambus, mirip harpschord, hingga sejajar dengan lantai. Dan yang terakhir yaitu piano persegi, mampu mendominasi banyak rumah.
Pada abad ke-XIX, terjadi pembangunan gedung-gedung konser. Namun ternyata suara piano persegi tak memadai. Akhirnya dilakukan perubahan lagi, piano dibuat dengan kerangka besi. Pada tahun 1800, piano dibuat dengan logam. Pada 1820, akhirnya Erard bersaudara mematenkan double escapement action, yang merupakan temuan tersohor dari yang pernah ada berkaitan dengan cara kerja piano.
Sebelum memiliki 88 tuts seperti sekarang, piano hanya memiliki 62 tuts dan 5 oktaf. Dilengkapi pedal namun digerakkan dengan lutut.
