Stubborn’s Respite – A Tale of Broken Glass



You said I had a certain stand alone complex,
Not wanting to admit that you left me standing all alone.
There was always a spot for you I held in my heart,
All you had to do was barter a piece of you to reserve a piece of me.
All the promises we made to better things among ourselves,
But when the time came for us, you weren't there
Resentment so strong should have taken place, if I WAS a lesser being.
Sweet nothings said or being done it would only fail to erase the pain, if I WAS a lesser being.
Instead I move forward with a trail of broken glass behind me
The window of opportunity long since shattered, but I was too afraid to leave the remains
Denial bubbling and coexisting with the hope inside me when the first few cracks appeared
Every time I was turned away the cracks would grow,
A tortured river weaving its way across my very soul.
Who knew you could cause so much pain by returning nothing?
But I kept trying to give you a piece of me
Even crossing that line that marks halfway to compromise.
What else must I give for you to finally see that these eyes are starting to realize your real lies?
Is our history such a past battered by pain, malice and resentment?
That it outweighs what we could, no SHOULD be as one?
I thought if I tried harder maybe we would be alright.
And as my heart dwindles, I've come to my own little epiphany that the needs of me outweigh the needs of the few.
The chances lay shattered at my back.
I would pick them up but I refuse the risk of cutting another part of me for you any longer.
So I tell you this, I simply have nothing else to give, or at least nothing else I want to give to you.
