DMT Extraction

WARNING: Everything needs to be done outside in order to prevent exposure to heptane vapors or minimize the likelihood that there could be a heptane vapor explosion.

1. Grind up 100 grams of Mimosa Hostilis root bark in a blender
2. Get distilled white vinegar (5% acidity, available at most stores)
3. Measure out 100 mL of vinegar
4. Mix the vinegar and bark in a stainless steel bowl for several minutes to ensure that the bark is completely saturated
5. Measure out 120 mL of tap water and heat it (can be microwaved for ~1 minute so it is warm but not boiling)
6. Mix the warm water in with the bark and vinegar and mix for several minutes
7. Continue to mix or let stand for approximately 40 minutes
8. Measure out 80 grams of Calcium Hydroxide, Ca(OH)2, which is commonly sold as "Pickling Lime"
9. Add all of the Calcium Hydroxide to the bark mixture in the stainless steel bowl and mix until all the powder is mixed in (make sure to scrape all powder off the sides)
10. Mix everything for AT LEAST 5 minutes, more is better
11. Afterwards, it should be a thick, dark (blackish-reddish-brownish) mud-like material, a little more Calcium Hydroxide can be added to thicken a little more
12. Add all the bark to a pie plate and spread it out to fill the entire container
13. Cover it with plastic wrap but be sure NOT to let it touch the bark mixture
14. Let it sit out for 2 hours
15. Put 500 mL of water into a microwavable container
16. Microwave it for 3 minutes
17. Add the water to a crock pot
18. Set the crock pot to high and put the lid on
19. Measure out 100 grams of 100% heptane in a glass jar
20. Put the lid on the heptane loosely, so that vapors can escape, and place it inside the entire glass jar inside the hot water in the crock pot to allow the heptane to heat up, then put the bark mixture on top of the crock pot to heat up, and leave it for 10 minutes
21. Remove the heptane and uncover the bark mix, put the bark back on top of the crock pot WITHOUT the heptane inside
22. Pour the heated heptane into the bark mix in the pie pan and mix with a stainless steel spoon
23. Lightly mix for 10 minutes in order to get the heptane and bark to come in contact, the DMT is being absorbed into the heptane here
24. Clump the bark up on one side of the pie plate, and have the solvent go to the other side (it should be clear)
25. Pour the heptane off through a paper filter into a glass jar
NOTE: Here you should cover the bark mixture again, being sure not to let the plastic wrap touch it, and save it for later extractions
26. Put your clean pie pan on top of the crock pot for heat, and pour the heptane/DMT solution into the pan to let it evaporate and concentrate the DMT
27. Leave it here for 30 minutes
28. If you are outside, place something over the solution to prevent things from getting in the mixture
29. The amount of heptane should now be significantly reduced to only 10-20 grams
30. Cover the plate in plastic wrap, and place the plate in your freezer and allow it to tilt to one side in order to pool to solvent and let the DMT crystals grow in one area (this is the longest step and takes 2-4 hours)
31. Take the plate out in the open to dry, tilt it away from the crystals so that solvent runs off them
32. After one to two hours, the DMT crystals should be completely dry and can be scraped off the pie plate with a razor and put on a piece of paper or foil for measuring
33. The final product can be stored in a bag or container with a lid
