Statement of Purpose

In the complex and interconnected world of international business, the science of information management is extremely important. Modern businesses are heavily reliant on information systems, and this is integral to the successful management of an organization. With my professional background as an Engineer of Information Technology, I have become quite interested and skilled in this area. However, if I am to prepare myself for the challenges of a successful future career, it is essential that I combine my background in computer technology with further education in management. I believe such a blend of technology and management will give me a unique competitive edge in the international workplace. I hope to use my skills and background to learn how to effectively analyze and solve business problems. I am eager to explore this field in the presence of the esteemed professors at your university. The master’s program in Information Management offered at your university is, therefore, ideal for my professional goals.

During my undergraduate program, I have worked on many technical projects. One such project, namely, Educational Management System, combined the concepts of Data Mining and Web Application to bring to the user an interface where the user could find out any statistical detail regarding the educational system of India and provided suggestions based on statistics on how the educational scenario of the different regions could be improved.

During my college years, I, also, got an opportunity to participate in an internship program at National Thermal Power Corporation Limited, where we designed a Case Management System using C# .Net Framework and Structured Query Language. The software solution allowed the employees of an organization to keep track of and manage the details of the work that they have carried out. Here, I was a part of the back end development and the requirement gathering teams for this project.

I realized that the curriculum was exhaustive enough to give anyone an in-depth theoretical knowledge of every subject, but as an Engineer it was not enough. I needed to add something extra in my bucket. In pursuit of this, I started involving myself in many organizational events at college level where I organized a virtual stock market competition. This helped me in enhancing my understanding of functionality of the stock market application and also helped me in shaping my organizational skill.

In my fourth year of engineering, I completed an industrial internship at Accenture where I was trained on Agile methodologies. After successful completion of my internship, I was offered a full time role as a Software Engineer at Accenture.

At Accenture, I got the opportunity to work on emerging areas like Data Analytics which required skills like Structured Query Language and Automation testing tools such as Selenium and Rational Functional Tester. The Data Analytics project also required me to perform the role of a Functional Analyst where I had to understand the functional architecture of the data visualization tool called Tableau and validate each and every requirement. This was done by coordinating with teams from three different locations (India, Philippines and United States) and required a lot of perseverance and hard work. Nevertheless, the project was delivered within the timelines with high quality. This project led me to comprehensively understand the project processes.

At Accenture, I was also entrusted with the arduous job of handling and delivering our 12 weekend ‘Production Go Live’ efforts. All these efforts were delivered with highest quality for which I received appreciation from development and client teams.I have also worked as a Functional Analyst in Information Technology Service Management tools.

Since I believe that knowledge increases by sharing it, I have also been involved in training my teammates at Accenture on all the aforementioned skills that I have gained during my tenure.

In order to improve my management skills, I have also been involved in office events that require budget estimation, scheduling, negotiation and people management. This experience has further increased my urge to receive a more business and management-oriented education.

After researching about your program, I am well aware of the quality of education that is available at your University, and this has especially motivated me to pursue my educational path at this prestigious institution. I believe the challenges and opportunities available at your university will allow my potential to grow unfettered.

After I graduate from your program, I will be uniquely prepared to face the challenges of the international business world. I will also gain international exposure to a completely new and different culture which will enhance my soft skills. My short term goal is to seek employment that could serve as a practical supplement to my education. In the long-term, I plan to return to my native country, where the fast-developing economy requires experienced management professionals. The role of information management will be of increased importance in the coming years, and I plan to use my computing and management background to assist in the structured development of domestic companies.
