Stock Buyback - When the issuing company, of a stock, buys its own stock (from shareholders) at market price. The company will then re-absorb that portion of ownership.
Specialist - Presides over the auction market in the stocks to which he has been assigned by the stock exchange. Calls out bids and offers and introduces buyers to sellers. He may also buy the stock for himself.
Market Index - Used to help gauge the markets overall direction.

Stock Index Future - Is an obligation to perform.
Stock Index Option - Can't loose more than the amount you paid for the option. An options contact is a right for performance.

Market Order - An issue/security/stock purchase order that should be fulfilled at the current market price.
Limit Order - An issue/security/stock purchase order that should be fulfilled at, or lower than, the limit on the order.

Call Option - Right to buy a stock, or stock index, at a given price and time.
Put Option - Right to sell a stock, or stock index, at a given price and time.

Stop Loss - An order that should be fulfilled, immediately, when the value of the stock meets or exceeds the loss limit on the order.

P/E ratio - Price/Earnings ratio, ratio of the price of the stock to the earnings of the company.

DCA, Dollar Cost Averaging - The technique of buying a fixed dollar amount of a particular investment on a regular schedule, regardless of the share price. The investor purchases more shares when prices are low and fewer shares when prices are high.

Not having a plan - Why are you investing? What is the time horizon, what risks are you comfortable with?
Not being informed - Know what you are investing in, know what that company does, how profitable it is, what makes the profit go up and down.
Not checking on the quality of advice given to you by others - Check yo' info
Investing money that should be set aside - Long term - short term - Any expenses you KNOW you will have (house, tuition, etc) keep it in the bank/money market fund. That money should not be in the stock market.
Being Optimistic at the top; Pessimistic at the bottom; - Stay away from the feeling that things will always continue on the way they are. (at their current stride)
Buying on the basis of tips and rumors -
"Falling in love" with a stock -
Buying low (Pricing stocks in expectation of big returns) -
Have a technique - Are you a speculator (day trader) and you only care about the ups and downs, or are you a long term investor?

When to sell?
Have fundamentals changed? - Has the company changed (management, way of doing business, new ventures)? Has the industry changed?
