In both the book and the movie Mary Jackson is portrayed the same Three ways. Mary Jackson is Portrayed as unique strong and spontaneous.

In the movie there is a scene where Mary, Catherine, and Dorothy, are having car trouble‘s. A cop driving by decides to ask them what the problem is. After asking this question the officer finds out that the three ladies work for NASA. In the Spirit of patriotism the cop decides to give them a police escort. Just as the other two were about to decline Mary Jumps in to Except the offer. During this scene the movie is showing the spontaneous side of Miss Jackson.
Mary is also spontaneous in the book.

In the book, One of Mary’s characteristics is unique. In chapter 10, on page 77 it states “Marie passed up the all white bridal down for a shorter white dress with black sequins, accessorized with black gloves, black pumps, and a red rose corsage “This quote proves that Mary Jackson did things her own way. In the movie Mary is shown as unique in a different way. Mary wants to be in engineer at NASA but the only way is to take Classes at an all-white school . Since she’s black she is not allowed to do that. Despite this Mary makes a great statement in court which gives her the ability to go to the classes and also makes her worlds first and NASA’s first black woman Engineer.

Finally, Mary is also strong. Maybe not physically strong but she is strong at heart. The book gives an example of this, on page 87It states “Mary Jackson was angered -no, enraged -to have been confronted with such a blatant prejudice in a workplace dedicated to scientific and I rational thought“This shows that Mary was not going to take this prejudice which is an example of her strongness/Determination. There is another example of this in the movie. There is a scene where Mary Jackson enters the engineering class as the only woman where everyone else stares at her. The Professor of the class Says to mary “well, the curriculum is notDesigned for teaching a woman cut and Mary responds with “well I’m sure it’s the same as teaching a man”This was a very strong response for a woman at the time let alone a black woman engineer. Mrs. Jackson was not afraid to do anything to get to where she wanted to be.

In the end Mary Jackson () Was unique, strong, and spontaneous, in both the movie and the book
