-The greatest challenge before India, at the time of independence, was to provide a strong infrastructural base for economic and industriabl development.
-To help realize the dream of economic self reliance,development of power sector was considered as the top national priority and consequently development of electro-technical industry.
-India's technological capability was comparatively at a low level of development, as compared to the global status of the power plant equipment industry which at that time was already more than half a century old.
- The first statement on industrial policy made by the government of India in April 1945 emphasized the need for promoting and encouraging rapid industrialization of the country and stated that bulk generation of power should be a state concern.
Subsequently, the advisory planning board of govt of India, recommended the establishment of a heavy electrical equipment factory in the public sector in feb 1947 which emerged as a great reality after a decade, by the name of heavy electricals private limited, which lead to formation of BHEL...
