The following technical means exist to prevent illegal copying of software are:-
- Object code only
- check for machine identification
- check for software license
- encoding and encryption
- watermarking
2. Why does the complexity of a program increase during maintenance and what can be done about it?
The complexity of a program increase during maintenance because we add following
functions:-
• Components
• Configurations
• Special cases
• User styles
• New languages
Develop software complexity metrics tailored to the project dependent upon structure of the system being developed. Software complexity is usually measured as a matrix of complexity indicators including seller risk, skillsets required, and time to resolution of incidents, infrastructure complexity, speed of regression testing and end user performance among others. Use of multiple regression techniques to identify units, subprogram that require a reduction in complexity. Planning phases to re-work the software to reduce complexity.

- Improve any/all developer-oriented quality criteria: (testability, maintainability, portability, localizability, reusability)
- Change internal structure only (not interfaces)
