Basket adalah olahraga berkelompok yang terdiri atas 2 tim yang saling mencetak angka ke keranjang lawannya. Ada 3 posisi utama dalam basket yaitu:
- Forward = untuk mencentak angka
- Defense = untuk menjaga keranjang
- Playmaker = yang mengatur strategi dan alur bola.
Basket juga memiliki organisasi dunia yaitu FIBA. Ada beberapa kompetisi basket dunia ada BBA di Inggris, NBL di Amerika, IBL di Indonesia, dll
Sejarah basket di mulai dari seorang guru olahraga Kanada bernama Dr. James Naismith menciptakan olahraga ini pada 15 Desember 1891.
Pertandingan basket pertama kali di selenggarakan pada 20 Januari 1892 di YMCA.
Lapangan basket memiliki panjang 28,5 m dan lebar 15 m
Jumlah pemain 5 orang masing masing tim. Jumlah wasit ada 2 yang terdiri dari 1 wasit Referee dan 1 wasit Umpire. Waktu permainan 4×10 menit. Bola yg di gunakan memiliki Keliling 75-78cm dan Berat 600-650gram.
Ada beberapa tehnik dalam bermain basket:
- chacthing ball
- dribbling ball
- 3 passing : over head pass, chest pass, bounce pass
- pivot
- shooting
- lay up
Tehnik profesional dalam basket ada beberapa seperti :
- fade away
- hook shot
- jump shoot
- crossover
- slam dunk
