What we know:
- All the evil characters likes to manipulate the good characters
- They want all the money and power
Arguments:
- They take advantage of the good characters (Edmund)
- They treat their family badly (Goneril and Regan)
- They go with the flow without knowing the full details (Cornwall)
Thesis:
The evil characters in King Lear are mostly desperate for money and power as they don't care about the effect of their actions to others as long as they get what they wanted.
What can we argue?
- What makes the characters desperate for money and power?
- What are the actions of the evil characters that can cause an effect to the good characters?
Evidence:
- Goneril and Regan treated their father, Lear, poorly so he won't come to their houses again
- Edmund framed Edgar to their father, Gloucester, in order to be "legitimate" since he won't get the power as he is illegitimate
- Cornwall went with the flow of capturing Edgar because Gloucester and Edmund told him so
