Sonia Sotomayor was the person I decided to choose for Women's History Month. Sonia Sotomayor was born June 25,1954 in the Bronx, New York. She is known very well because she was the first Latina Supreme Court Justice in US history on May 26, 2009.

An achievement that Sonia Sotomayor accomplished was finishing all her years in school. When Sonia was little she did not come from privilege or money she was raised in New York with her widowed mother and her brother, Her father died when she was nine. She worked very hard and got very far with no money but got into big-name universities with scholarships where only rich kids go to. Sonia graduated from Cardinal Spellman High School in the Bronx in 1971 and entered the ivy-league Princeton University. She got awarded the Pyne Prize which is the highest academic award given to Princeton undergraduates. That same year she entered Yale Law School where she was an editor for the Yale Law Journal.

Another achievement that Sonia accomplished was that she has served as a judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit since October 1998. She has been hailed as “one of the ablest federal judges currently sitting”. She served 11 years on the Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit which is one of the most demanding circuits in the country and has handed down decisions on a range of complex legal and constitutional issues. Sonia Sotomayor is on the highest court in the land.

Sonia Sotomayor had a lot of positive influence on the society. For some people they hoped that the nomination of the Sonia to the nations highest court will finally at “least color in the Latina stereotype with the diversity and depth at heart of Puerto Rican culture” which did happened.
Sonia Sotomayor also had another influence on me she followed her dreams of being a lawyer which is something I wanna be when I grow up.. She never gave up and always pushed further even during the hard times she went through. Even though I didn't know much about Sonia Sotomayor she is a great role model. Which included of aspiration, discipline, commitment, intellectual prowess and integrity.

To conclude Sonia Sotomayor had a lot of achievements, She also had a lot of positive influence on the society which is something very proud to be of.
