Cerpen adalah karya saatra pendek yang menceritakan kisah cerita dari suatu tokoh yang didalamnya hanya terdapat 1 permasalahan dan solusi.
Cerpen memiliki 6 bagian.
1. Abstrak: ringkasan utama cerpen
2. Orientasi: pengenalan latar cerita
3. Komplikasi: urutan kejadian yang dihubungkan sebab akibat
4. Evaluasi: konflik yang terjadi mengarah ke klimaks dan sudah terdapat titik terang penyelesaiannya
5. Resolusi: solusi untuk permasalahan tersebut
6. Koda: nilai-nilai yang dapat dipetik dari suatu teks

1. Tema: gagasan utama terbentuknya cerita
2. Plot/Alur: tahapan jalannya cerita
3. Tokoh: Pemeran cerita
4. Penokohan: watak dari tokoh
Metode penokohan pada cerpen terbagi 2.
1. Metode penokohan analitik
Menggambarkan sifat tokoh secara langsung.
2. Metode penokohan dramatik
Menggambarkan sifat tokoh melalui penggambaran fisik dan percakapan.
