“AHH!” I screamed, as my elfish friend Weston sucked my arm with the high power vacuum arm. I know it seems weird, but it was a game that we developed called the “Vacuum Game”. After a couple of minutes, we got bored and asked our mothers, who were lounging on the front porch, talking and drinking lemonade, as usual, if we could go to Weston’s house.
“Sure. The girls are there, so you're in charge.” Once we arrived at the old, run-down house, our sisters were in the kitchen. Of course, we bragged that we were in charge and ran straight for Weston’s room.“Weston! Since you're in charge, can we make some popcorn?” the girls screamed. We didn’t really care so we told them they could, as long they read the directions correctly. As we were playing we heard they girls scream out”FIRE!! HELP!! FIRE!!” As soon as I heard that, I bolted through the house and out the door at 18 mph, speeding towards home. I tore down the street and across the block, knowing I could save the house.I’ll be a hero.In a few seconds,I was at the house,barely out of breath. “Mom!ThegirlswantedtocooksomepopcornandthentheysaidfireandIfreakedoutandranhere!” While our mothers were confused of what I said, I grabbed their drinks and grabbed a bucket. Then, the whole process of me running went all over again, ripping down the street and across the block, still thinking I would be a hero. When I got there I saw Weston unreeling the hose. “TURN IT ON!!!” I screamed. He didn’t even need to see me to respond. With his hands going at the speed of sound, he twisted the valve and water spewed out the front, spraying me and filling the buckets and water bottles. Knowing I was soaked, I ran into the kitchen where I saw the microwave in flames and smoldering popcorn popping in every direction. I ran through and dodged the first volley of flaming death-kernels, but a couple from the second stung my skin. I screamed, sloshing out some of the water. Then, I chucked the bucket of water and cups of lemonade. That extinguished some of the dancing flames, but some were furiously burning. I knew I couldn’t go out and get more water. All of a sudden, I felt a sting in my back and I knew I was going to burn. But this feeling just stung. I didn’t feel like a burn, and the pain was in one spot. It felt wet and cool. I turned around to see Weston with the hose, spraying wildly. Soon, everything was dowsed down, but the microwave was still smoldering. When we all put together what happened we got the story: We told the girls they could make some popcorn. They thought that if they baked it longer, it would get bigger, saltier, puffier, and more buttery, so they cooked for twenty minutes. Then it caught fire. Everything was okay, until our mothers got there.
“WHAT HAP*pop*AH!”. Popcorn can be rude, and interrupt. people. But, that interruption saved us. They looked at the dripping kitchen and saw how amazing we handled it. “Aw… You are so responsible! Let’s clean up and get ice creamed!” Usually I’m unlucky, but that was one of the luckiest, craziest moment of my life.
