Turnamen ini adalah sebuah kontes sihir yang melibatkan tiga sekolah sihir terbesar di Eropa.Ketiga sekolah tersebut adalah Hogwarts, Beauxbatons, dan Durmstrang. Setiap sekolah mengirimkan satu perwakilannya untuk mengikuti turnamen ini.Turnamen ini dirancang untuk menguji kemampuan sihir, kecerdasan, dan keberanian . Hadiahnya berupa Piala Triwizard, uang sebesar seribu Galleons, dan 'eternal glory'.Turnamen ini pertama kali dilaksanakan pada tahun 1294.turnamen ini menjadi sorotan karena dinilai terlalu berbahaya karena mengakibatkan pesertanya tewas ketika menjalankan misi dalam turnamen ini. Tingginya angka kematian membuat turnamen ini dihentikan pada sekitar tahun 1792. beberapa upaya telah dilakukan membangun kembali turnamen tersebut, namun semua gagal. Akhirnya, Turnamen Triwizard kembali dilaksanakan di Hogwarts pada tahun 1994-1995 dengan aturan baru yang dibentuk untuk menghindari kematian peserta. namun tetap saja turnamen ini menelan korban.
