Galveston Capital Tourism and Marketing at FeatherFest Returns April 6-9

Galveston’s Birding and Nature Photo Festival, FeatherFest, is four fun days of excellent birding and nature photography workshops, adventurous field trips, and delightful evening social events. There’s also an opportunity to meet and mingle with some of the top naturalists in the country. The festival is April 6 - 9.

During the four days, there are 100+ birding and nature photography field trips and workshops led by Greg Miller, Kevin Karlson, Hector Astorga and regional experts to various beach, bay, and wetland locations. In the evenings, there are several social events for unwinding and sharing stories of the days fun.

Raptors Uncorked is an evening filled with flying Birds of Prey, endless photo ops, an exceptional four-course Mediterranean-style dinner and wine from the Olympia Grill at Pier 21, a Raptors Raffle filled with great surprises, and a Safari Photo Booth. Raptor’s Uncorked is a fun culinary and avian delight that has become a FeatherFest favorite with returning guests, and a must-do event for first-time festival goers! More details are here.

At Cocktails & Conversation with Kevin Karlson and Greg Miller, history and nature meet as you step back in time to the recently restored 1875 Julius & Elizabeth Ruhl House visiting with Kevin and Greg about real life birding adventures as well as those portrayed in The Big Year as you sip cocktails and savor delectable hors d’oeuvres. Kevin Karlson is a renowned wildlife photographer, author and shorebird expert, and a longtime FeatherFest favorite. Greg was one of the extreme birders featured in the book The Big Year and was portrayed by Jack Black in the major motion picture of the same name. More details are here.

There is also a series of events created for kids dubbed FledglingFest. Kids will have the opportunity to get a close-up look at critters, plants, and birds at the Galveston Island Start Park or see dolphins and birds in the harbor aboard the Seagull II. More details are here.

FeatherFest is organized by the Galveston Island Nature Tourism Council, a non-profit community-based volunteer organization that sponsors, supports and develops nature-based educational and recreational activities. They help promote the value of natural habitats and resources in the Galveston area. More details are here.
