Many people say that they prefer one party to control the presidency and another party to control Congress. How does this benefit or hurt the country? Do you prefer this or the same party controlling both the presidency and Congress? Why?

Personally, I prefer one party to control the presidency and another to control congress. This sets up a divided government that prevents one party from holding all the power. I think a divided government is in the best interest for most Americans because members from both political parties have a say in the creation of laws that affect all Americans.

I believe a unified system of government only benefits the political party that holds all the power. For example, our current government is controlled by republicans. The republican party controls both the presidency and congress. Many democrats are frustrated with this system because their political party has practically no power. Congress will most likely pass the laws that are carried out by the executive branch because of the unified system of government. This sounds like a great deal to republicans but not so great of a deal to democrats. I believe this sets up a divided country.

A government in which one party controls the presidency and another party controls congress creates a system in which no single political party has all the power. Instead, both political parties have an influence into the laws that are created. One downfall of this divided system is that many believe not much gets done because the executive and legislative branches can’t come to agreements. With that being said, a separation of power is established within the nation thus preventing only one political party from holding all of the power.
