Recycling your electronics is a good thing because we're helping the environment get better and not pollute it. Burning your e-waste can affect people's health and the environment by polluting the air and burning your skin. The three text “Do the green thing- 5 painless ways to recycle old electronics”, “Piles of thrown-out TVs, laptops, and phones pose an environmental risk”, and the video “60 minutes: E-waste” all inform the reader about recycling and taking care of the environment. The authors purposes are conveyed through the information given, the organization and word choice used about recycling your e-waste.
In the article “Do the green thing- 5 painless ways to recycle old electronics”, tells the reader that there are easy ways to recycle and that it is not hard. The articles organization is conveyed by giving background information, telling the reader what to do and how to do it and the article provides resources where you can go and recycle. The information that was used was explaining how you can get paid by recycling your old phones. In the article, it states that “heavy metal into groundwater” which is when the old electronics are put in landfills and they start to break down into earth's surface. The author's word choice helped the reader stay engaged about how easy recycling can be. He used words like quick, easy, small amount of effort, and one simple way.
In the article “Piles of thrown-out TVs, laptops and phones pose an environmental risk”, the authors purpose was to inform the reader about how e-waste can have a global impact on the environment. The information conveyed was that different companies ship their electronic waste overseas to places in China and parts of Africa. He gave reasons why we should not burn the e-waste because they have led, mercury and other dangerous chemicals in them. The author conveyed the organization by writing about how a recycling company “Absolute Green Electronics Recycling”, in california helping with recycling different electronics. Also, the author talks about how we can reduce e-waste in America and how the e-waste is effect the world in a negative way. The word choice that was used was words like “digital dumping”, hazardous, toxins, poisonous and huge. A video called “60 minutes: E-waste” has a similar argument about e-waste like this article.
In the video “60 minutes: E-waste”, it showed the viewer what happens when you don’t recycle and ship things overseas illegally. The authors purpose was the inform the viewer that not all things are recycled and to explain that recycling companies are not all recycling our items instead they're sending them over to foreign cuntries for them to burn and get different types of metals. The information conveyed was that they sent their recycled items to Hong Kong and Hong Kong has the world's most dangerous landfill that can cause people to get sick and possibly die, from contaminated air and water. The organization was conveyed by the author giving background information about e-waste and how hazardous it is. The author went to a recycling company called “Executive Recycling” in Englewood, Colorado and he found out that they sent an illegal container filled with monitors, that are illegal ship in America, to Hong Kong where millions of other monitors are piled up
